See Ms. Warren giving a writing lesson. You can support your child to write in the same way at home. Writing in Grade Primary can look very different depending on the child. It always begins with a picture to tell a story. If your child gets stuck and can't think of an idea, remind them of our anchor chart: Then, children work towards getting some print down. Some label their pictures using all the letters, other children are working on the first and last letter (e.g. "SN" for sun), and some are working on the first letter only (e.g. "D" for Dad). In her writing lesson, Ms. Warren shows the class how we can write a simple sentence in Primary: 1) say the sentence and count the words on our fingers; 2) write word lines on the paper to represent the words; 3) print the words or sounds sounds we hear. Here are some of the alphabet and word charts that your child uses in our class to help them write: Please don't write or draw directly on your child’s work (unless you are doing a fun shared-writing activity together), so that they retain their ownership and pride and independence. If they need help drawing or printing, you can model for them on your own paper!
